This is a question for Ken Onion but if anyone knows the answer feel free to chime in.

Mr onion,

is it possible for you to take a production knife and customize it by puting in a speed-safe mechanism. More specifically a Benchmade 750 Pinnacle. I absolutely love this knife and realized that the only thing that would make it even better would be speed-safe assisted opening.
Please let me know if this is possible and what the price range would be. Thank you very much.

Knives, Weapons and equipment. Best prices anywhere.

Louis,

That is a GREAT idea. Maybe it'll be cheaper for more than one knife. If so, I'm in.

It may be very very expensive to do. Last time I heard, Ken Onion was back-logged for almost two YEARS! His customs go for over $500, and I would imagine it would take quite a bit of retrofitting to put speed-safe on a BM750.

Just my thoughts,
Mitch

I seriously doubt that Mr. Onion will have the time to do such a thing, though it would be a cool service. I also doubt it would be very easy, besides, what would you sandwich the torsion bar between? Also, you'd have to know EXACTLY where to machine the Ti. for the speed safe to work properly.

This question is not for Mr. Onion, but it is related.

I like my Kershaw Whirlwind -the blade shape esp. The only thing I do not like is the plastic handle.

The question is: Would someone be able to replace the plastic with some better material - micarta, wood or so?? I know that the more expensive knives in the serie have better handles, but I do not like the blade shape.

how tuff would it be to replace the handle material (plastic) with something better (aluminum)?
that looks like a really good idea.

Knives and Cars... Simple but EXPENSIVE.
I would put some important quote from the bible here, as many of you have done, but I don't believe in god or that jesus was his (?) son.

Probably wouldn't be worth the final cost of the knife. May be better off looking into high-end knife or custom even. Have you checked into the Ricochet?

I have seen only pictures of Ricochet. Does it have the same blade shape as Whirlwind?

Pretty close, but not exactly. I do like the Whirlwind's shape better than the other two, but that plastic's just gotta go. (...along with the 440C)

Guys,
I don't want to speek for Ken but, after taking my Riccochet apart to see how it worked, it think it would be impossible!
If I'm not mistaken the 750 has an integral lock, solid frame?? It would take extensive precision milling of one side of the frame. In addition to this it would need some sort of handle material attached to it to cover the mechanism! I realy dont thing it would be cost effective and the end result would probably look much different from the standard 750.
Again, I would like to see what Ken has to say about this,
Neil
