Question for Kershaw guys - Amphibian Steel

I have many Kershaws (mostly Ken Onion designs) and am very happy with most. I really like the design of the Amphibian (though I'm not a scuba diver), I like the idea of having serrations on one side of the blade and non on the other. The only problem is every time I breath on the edge too hard it gets dull, and it's a bitch to sharpen with my Gatco because the blade shape doesn't fit in the clamp. I researched and found out that it's made with J2, a very soft steel usually only used in liners.

I know that a salt water knife must be extreamly rust resistant, but it seems to me that it could have been made with 440c or something like that. Why did you go with J2, and is there any chance of a better steel being used in the future?

Sperron,

The choice for the J2 is for corrosion resistance, that is also why the HRC is lower then it could be. Unfortunately at this time we do not have plans to make that particular knife in a higher grade of steel because of its focus on the Dive market.

I know it doesn’t have the serrations but the ZT 0150 is a sweet little fixed blade designed by Tim Galyean and it is offered in S30v
