Hi,first post at Bladeforums.
My question is mainly for LEO's but also for any who would also know the answers.several questions are here, sorry.
Let me start by saying I'm in Pennsylvania-and the laws in many cases are not clear cut. There seems to be a "tool of the trade" or situational aspect to most of it.But my main question(as someone who dosn't want to break any laws but does want to edc a knife)is what is a real world definition of a concealed weapon. Is a knife in my pocket considered concealed. If I have one in a sheath that my shirt covers,is that concealed.I've noticed Pa law dosn't have any clear cut guidelines for it.In fact, although the PA constitution states(if I've read it correctly) that one can be armed, legally for the purpose of self-defense,the Pa offensive weapons law seems to contradict that. There seems to be no laws stating you can't carry a knife-with the exception of school grounds but would the mere possession of a knife in my pocket while in a store be a cause for arrest if an oficer saw it.I consider,as most here do from the posts I've read,a knife to be a tool and don't wish to cause myself(or anyone else for that matter) any problems. Then of course there is the AO issue-you can buy them at any Wal-Mart but PA law seems to have an issue with them as well. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

hey man, welcome!!! i am relatively new as well.. as for your questions... man, the laws change with states. i am in tennessee and the law is equally vague. i think the law is written that way so the government and police can cover themselves and have some play with the law if they need to nail someone with something.... dont know about in PA.

Thanks for the welcome!

I thought my question was pretty straightforward.
I only wanted some clarification as I do use a knife for one task or another every day and should I have one on me outside the house I wanted to be on the Legal side of things.

Concealed is anything that is not visible on your person. To be in compliance the object has to be on your outer most clothing in plain veue of the the public. For example if the knife was in a sheath on your belt you would not be in violation unless you put on a jacket coveing the sheath. There fore the jacket would conceal the knife placing you in violation. However the Laws varry from state and county. Additionaly there are also restrictions to style ,length of blade and weather you are on probattion, parole or have special conditions pending a current case. Such as domestic violence ect. Check out the 12020 sections of the california penal code for dangerous weapons violations

Thanks Sanderson,
Your info clarifies what I thought to be the case.I have no legal issues that would stop me from any EDC of a knife-and have done so outside the home on several occasions-but my shirt usually covered it up-that will change as you confirmed my suspicion. When I do carry outside the home I'm usually in between using it so I'll make sure it's visible-thanks
