I know Michael just asked which mill bit to use for cutting the lock slot, but I was wondering if anyone has used metal cutting scrollsaw blades to do this, and if so where did you get the blades. I seen an advertisement for metal cutting scrollsaw blades a while back but can't seen to remember where.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, I've tried my jewelers saw with a pretty good blade with poor results. I guess if you had the right blade it would work good. I use a Grizzly flex shaft with a thin non reinforced cut off wheel, it usualy takes two wheels to make one cut. I am going to set up a slitting saw in my mini mill because I think it will work better, but I've been using the cut off wheels for almost 10 years and they do work. I'm using .040 and .050 thickness titanium and any thicker will be tough to cut with the cut off wheels.

Edit.... I get my jewelers saw blades from Reo Grand jewelers supply but they just don't work that good on titanium.

There are diamond-coated blades available, but they are even more fragile than regular blades and about $9 apiece. Rio Grande.....

Thanks Don, I was hoping someone had tried them or something similar before I ordered some. It was just wishfull thinking :( .

You know me fitz, to rich for my blood unless its a sure fire answer. :D

Thanks,

Bill

I'd defiinitely say a scrollsaw won't be surefire on Ti. Buy the big pack of blades if you find them.... :)
