I am really fascinated by the Meerkat and I think that I have to have one to add to the "family" of Spydercos that regularly adorn my pants pockets.

But how many of you have chosen the reverse S blade over the regular drop point? Personally I can't see when I would need the reverse S, or at least when it would be more beneficial to have one over a good ole drop point. But I must admit, it looks prettier! :)

Thanks

PS...nice to be back after such a long time away.....

I carry my Tufram, SE Cricket... and love it. I find the edge design works great for small tasks... thread, tape, envelopes, rope(up to 1/2" or so that I've tried), tearing apart 50-80 boxes in one night... and the list goes on.

I plan to pick up a reverse-s 'kat soon.

Have a recent (month or so) reverse S. Main reason for the choice was I like the look better, but I have found it helpful for opening tape-sealed boxes etc with less pressure - if you let the blade "ride" on the belly, and let the tip ride a little lower, it gives a pretty aggressive "rip" cut without much pressure. I would far prefer the 440C blade, the one made in the US, but I settled for the Japanese AUS6 blade. I'm not disappointed in the performance, just would have preferred the higher alloy material & the made in t USA manufacturing. If they ever come out with a reverse S 440C (or 154CM or ...you get the picture) that's made in the USA, I'll buy another one in a second.

Have a friend with the regular shape (440C) blade. Works fine, just looks a little less sleek, IMHO.

I rarely use my EDC's for food. I work in an office, and they open, trim, or cut paper things, or do odd utility jobs around the house. The Meerkat is so easy for office use it should be required for everyone to carry. Light, small, easy IWB carry when you're wearing dress pants (doesn't rub or catch when you sit at a desk).

WHen I am out of the office, say weekends, I carry something else, more suited for cutting fruit - Camillus EDC, Gerber LST, Opinel, Native, even a Camillus stockman penknife. Meerkat rides to work, that's all.

I doubt the recurve blade would be a problem for an apple or a peach, because the blade is still easy to work with, almost as big as the regular. I just happen to prefer the looks.
