An occasional topic on this forum is what new steel option we would like to see in Buck's custom shop (not that it happens, but just wishful thinking :)).

I was wondering if you had a favorite steel you would like to have available for a custom 110 (or I guess any knife at all), and if you have any custom 110's what options you went with.

Edit:
Oh, yeah...and, of course, what hardness would you want (assuming it's not a steel Buck already carries, made to your specs)?

Carl: I have several steels I like, Oil hardening steels would be 52100, O1, Air hardening toolsteels would be CPM-3V and D-2, Stainless would be CPM-154, and S-30-V. I really think any of the steels used in knives today will make great blades, if the Edge angle is correct and has a good heat treatment. I would love to have a 110 with all these steels, What a great collection that would be. Buck is now using , CPM-154 for Bass Pro, CPM-S30-V for Cabillis, And 154-CM on there Customs. I think they are also planning to use some of Crucibles other tool steels in the future, But im not sure at this point. Thank you, Paul Bos.

Thanks. 52100 and O1 are two I have heard mentioned a lot but I have never had the chance to try either of them.

D2 from the Custom Shhooppee would be too cool. I want a 110 in carbon steel. I know, it requiers more care but I am a big boy now. I can handle it.

D2 from the custom shop would waken me from my hesitation on using them for sure. In fact if I thought for one second that I could get a D2 blade in my Buck 560 it would be on the way there already.

Tis just a shame that Buck put some D2 in some of the limited editions and are too collectable to use.

I too want a "user" in D2. Something along the line of the 805 signature series one.

I was talking to someone at buck not too long ago, cant remember who? But I do believe I remember hearing that they were talking about using some more high end steels.
