Commenting on sales threads is prohibited, but there's no rule against liking and some sales threads get tons of likes, especially rare knives and especially decent prices.

I think I like threads most often when its a knife I like and covet, but just cant pull the trigger.

Im sure there are more treacherous reasons as well :D

I will occasionally "like" a sales thread because it's a friend that I've met on here or done good business with. It is my way of showing some love to good people.

I also "like" threads that have amazing knives, even if the asking price is a little higher than I would pay. Sometimes I wish there was a "love" or "this is a freaking score" button to differentiate when such is the case.

Great poll! All of the above for me and I rarely go past a sheet or two in the wind but even then it's more of an appreciation for what's being offered knowing someone is going to really be happy af to score. But yeah, it's mostly like going to an animal shelter you want to take them all home but it's just not possible.

The only sales threads I have liked to my recollection are those where a customer maker here list a piece they made and well it is just a stunning piece. I could see myself giving a like to someone who is doing a reasonable sale on an item typically found at unreasonable prices often due to no longer being in production or some other exclusive nature.

I think I've only seen one ad in which the seller posted a comment about the likes... intended or not, he came off as a douche.
I've seen likes for some of my ads, and interpreted them in various ways; including, but not limited to: "Nice", "thanks for being honest/forthcoming about that", "haha, good luck getting that price", etc.

I like sales threads all the time. Chris and Petey covered my thoughts pretty well. I mostly will just do it if I like the blade and maybe there is one more factor, such as it’s a good person selling, or it’s a great deal, pics are good, etc. I don’t let the price keep me from liking a sales post unless the asking price is completely outrageous, (like 2x or more what I would be willing or expecting to pay, which very rarely happens.)

Hitting 'like' shows up in the news feed, so I usually hit it when I think a sale might be interesting to friends who might follow the news feed and happen to have the same taste in blades as myself. That's why I would use it in the for sale by individuals forum. In the knifemaker's forum, it's out of appreciation for such fine work as we see there.

Oh yeah, and sometimes I "like" a sales thread when it's a steal and I just want others to know - I could've had this one but I'm letting you guys have a chance for once. :D:D:D

That's usually only when I'm the first one there. :D

Too funny :D :D

I suppose I might be guilty of that on occasion as well :)

All of above, maybe some more than others, and also other reasons....maybe I like the item that seller puts up and just like it to add a like to his profile? Cool things get likes IMO

Some of the above, so I maked none.

I will like a thread from a member I like, or on a good deal, or a nice knife, etc, etc.

The makers for sale threads, you are allowed to comment, so I will often compliment a nice knife.
