I know the H.I. shop is and has been having issues for a while so I know custom orders are taking much longer to get produced, but for those of you who have had them delivered what kind of turn around time did you have? I'm not impatient just excited :D, I placed an order back in January and I am just trying to figure out an estimate as to when I may get the email that it has been made.

just customs -- because they have to individually get the measurements then manufacture them to spec, then get through nepal customs(no relation) and back to auntie in nevada

I don't think there's a good way to even guess. It could be next month or a year. Just don't know what they have going on over there.

Some lately seemed like they were pretty quick, couple months maybe.

I know the Micro bawanna bowies were much quicker than anticipated. With Tirtha and Bhakta back things might be a little quicker.

Course on the other hand it might be a year too, so I don't want to fill you with false hopes, just can't predict. Not sure even Auntie can but she'd certainly be better at it than us.

Bawanna, is Bhakta really back at HI now? He's one of my favorite kamis and I was sad to hear he had left previously (I've been out of the loop for a while here). He'd be my go-to guy for a custom AK or bowie!

I had a monster made custom for me and it took 4 months back when the shop was running at 100%. Now I'd guess 8-12 months.

I feel your pain as I just placed a custom order myself.

Folks,
There really is no hard and fast timeframe.
Special orders are worked into the kamis normal work schedule for production. First and foremost is keeping the business running.
For special orders it is always best to explain to Auntie in detail what you need, provide drawings and specifications and be sure you are done modifying your order before placing it, as changing your order after submission causes confusion and delays.
Auntie then should be able to give you a personal rough idea how long it will take for your order to be completed. Even then, if problems with the kamis or shop arise, the order can face a delay. Apologies in advance for this, but, it is a fact of life in operating a business in the environment that is Nepal.

Yeah! Spears, Kora, Dayak, ilange, Dhas, Jambiyas, Hasiyas, Valas, Kybers ... all at one time might take a little bit longer too but sure is worth the wait aint it:thumbup:

Whoa, hold the freaking phone! HI makes Khyber knives? Do you have any photos?

HI's version of the Khyber knife:

Auntie asked me to post this on the forum for one of our friends whom ordered an Uddha Sword with guard.

I've always thought that the Uddha sword is based on the Afghan Khyber knife:

Thanks, Steve! If I ever scrape together the cash, an HI Khyber will definitely be a high priority for me.

Our shop and Kamis are still busy making pending order Knives from online store. Power shortage problem it still going on and all special and online store customers Knives will arrive here slightly delay.
I am sorry for delay

No apology needed, I understand the problems that the shop is having, I was just wondering out of curiosity and excitement what sort of time frame people have been experiencing so I can put this to the back of my mind and be surprised however long from now it is when I get an email saying it is done.

Thanks everyone for the replies though, what I have gotten from it is to expect sometime q1 or 2 next year but I should just forget about it and let an email catch me off guard.

You can't rush perfection, nor can you put a price on it. Anything worth having is worth waiting for.

Agreed. Love means never having to say your sorry! I've modified it to say Love means never ever ever ever having to say your sorry.

Saw it in a movie once and sort of grabbed onto the phrase and called it my own.

I wish I was living in your world. Around here, apologies even when you didn't do anything wrong keep you out of a lot of trouble (in bed, in the kitchen, in the backyard, in the living room and even in the basement - Especially in the basement!!!)

Give it a little time son, your confusing apologizing for groveling. Apologizing is for when you want something you can't have. Groveling is well......Ndog would be a expert on groveling. That's trying to cover your tracks from when you did something you knew you wouldn't be allowed to do but you done it anyway. What you may now consider basic instructions will in a few years be correctly labeled as nagging.

I'm asked to do stuff and then she wants to tell me how to do it, usually incorrectly or poorly executed. I tell her if she's such an expert she can do it and I'll go do something meaningful

Right now im trying to cover tank tracks across Bermuda grass! Sorry dont fill them tracks. If she is broadcasting loudly its not so bad (stage 1) cause it will be over and done with in a matter of hours. Its the silent stage 2 nagging that last till next payday that i hate! When you been married for long as me you know what shes saying even if she aint saying it.
