Hey guys,

I am heading back to Afghanistan again soon, and am looking for a good EDC. I am stuck between two knives .. the RC-3 or the new H.E.S.T. knife. Which one will be a good day to day carry as well serve as a good field knife?

thanks!!

Well the RC3 is tried and tested but that HEST looks to be a sweet little beast, plus its got a bottle opener so i would go with the HEST!

The HEST has a pry bar built into the handle so that may prove to be useful. Good luck and thank you for your service

Depends on the size you need. The Heist is smaller and maybe easier to carry? Depends on how you carry it. The RC looks sweet.....But you can open alot of beers with the Hest.:). Probably really doesn't matter. But if I was carrying a Rc3 on my side I would get a RC4. Hest if I was concealing it.JMO

The RC-3 is a great EDC & has more carry options. The HEST is a little more compact & can be hidden somewhat easier. The RC-4 has a lot of blade with a compact handle.

Here is a pic comparing the RC-3, HEST & RC-4.

come on... let's be real here. do you want a knife or do you want a can-opener?

Thank you for your service. I love my RC-3, it is pretty much my first choice for blades these days. The HEST looks to be a great blade, and of course with the RAT name behind it, it will be quality. I think it would be a easier blade to hide away if need be. Question is of course, will you be able to get one before you go? I think the first production run is sold out. :/

More featurs on the HEST, but I always carry a SAK, so the extra features... I have a bottle opener. :)

Get back to us save, and godspeed to you.

RC 3 is attached to my IBA. It fits well and is very useful for a EDC. I also maintain a larger personal protection blade as well.....

i would go for the hest, it was designed for guys like you, and the pry bar looks like it would come in extremely handy!

I'd say go with the HEST for it's versatility. If it were me, I'd just carry a multitool and an RC-4, then I'd have all the good features (like a bottle opener) and a blade that's bigger, but not big enough to be a hinderence.

Best of luck. Thanks for the service and stay safe! Cheers

Carry the HEST. RYP and I are suppose to be in Afghanistan some time in the next few months so if you have that one we'll take your picture!

Ive got an old RAT-3 on my IOTV. carrying a RC-4 on my waist tho. ive also been looking into the tops stryker defender as a good knife to put on my IOTV and replace the old ontario.
