If Ontario ever backs off do you have any plans to produce your own Model 1 folder type knife? I really like the model 1 but would gladly buy more of your guys own.

I do believe I read in another thread that the guys at Rat Cutlery would like to do a folder at some point but due to their busy production schedule right now, if they do, it'll be quite a bit further down the road.

We're all looking forward to it though!!

New knife models are going to slow down a bit after we get these out. We have another project or three we're working with Pelton on which will be pretty cool, and we are also *thinking* about an RTAK style knife. PLEASE NOTE I SAID "THINKING"

Our next round of new projects will be geared towards mods on current designs - thus the reason for the sheath style on the Izula. Once all of this comes out then the RAT/ROWEN co-brand folder will be getting some serious attention. No timelines yet.

I believe this answers your question?

We are going to do a folder regardless of what Ontario does or does not do. We are a completely separate and legal company. As far as "Ontario backing off" it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon. I sent Nick Trbovich two requests to discuss our differences like gentlemen and he never responded. Mike spoke with him briefly at the TOPS booth and I spoke and shook hands with just about all of the Ontario employees that were at SHOT - even made a point to go by and see them simply because I like them. As did Mike. Just about all the Ontario reps (non-employees) came by to see us and ask how we were doing. They were extremely nice to us. Again, this whole thing is childish, IMO, and centers around a couple of people and not the whole Ontario crew. I wish Ontario and all its employees the best, the rest is in the hands of our attorneys.

Thanks for all the info everyone, I will be all over that when released!!!

Jeff, if you come out with a RAT folder, I swear, I won't carry anything other than RAT, probably forever. And I've been carrying my Benchmade 530 for about 4 years now.

id like to see a rat folder series in 154cm or d2. both are great.

:thumbdn: I hate 154cm no matter what brand name is on it... D2 I could live with but I like S30v or let's go back in time to when carbon steel folders were the bomb :D 1095 or 01 folder, wow that to me would be sweet

I've been hearing the same thing from a lot of guys, Tony. 154CM is not a favored steel among those who go and do it seems.

Whats the reason tony? I have never used 154cm, but I really like the new scrap yard offering in 154cm and I am in line to purchase one.

I have owned everything from Scrapyard in 154cm & HC from Swamp and I sold or traded all of them , I just dont care for the edge, from factory not very good ,then in turn you have to fix it or use the factory edge like it is and after it dulls it is kinda tuff to get a good edge on it and not have a ragged feeling edge, the edge just seems brittle, I just dont like the properties of the steel.never own another. somewhere someone got a good deal on 154cm but to me it sucks for a knife,IMO :D Let me say I am not downing the makers , I like 'em,still own some Scrapyards ,I just do not care for their dwelling into 154cm of knife making, good handles but I am not a fan of the 154cm steel.
154CM was considered by many to be super-steel, if you can find some of the old production stock. The new batches are not manufactured to the standards that we've come to expect for knife steel. While excellent in use, 154CM eats up the finest hacksaw blades in one across-the-bar cut of 1-1/2". It's machining and grinding qualities are similar to 440C and won't win it any awards for ease in working. In use though, this alloy has a definite advantage in both hardness and toughness over 440C. 154 CM is not an accepted standard grade designation, rather a manufacturers trade name.

I've never really used 154CM that much to make a judgment but when we were talking about doing a knife in 154 we got several emails from folks saying they didn't like it.

give it a try alot of peeps like it, not sure if it is because of the name stamped on the side or actually like the 154 steel,I just did not care for , buy it and if you do not like it you can always trade it on the forum. give it a whirl and make up your own opinion bro,I always do
