Hi Shane,
I can answer this. First, I thought we'd changed the text on our website, but apparently not. The wording was chosen with a specific intent in mind, but we found out that after we posted our new site that our wording was misleading.
Let me try to explain. When using a lockback, there is actually spring tension on the blade, restricting the free-flowing opening process. On the ArcLock, the lock cam rests on the blade tang by a spring. The tang is not perfectly circular; it tapers to favor the opening of the blade. So rather than the lock cam going uphill on the tang while opening, it actually goes downhill during its opening. So, there is a slight assist during its opening.
Where the misconception has come is that there are assisted opening knives on the market that open via a spring (like a switchblade). The person writing the text for our website was not a highly literate knife knut and didnt know that assisted opening had a specific meaning. I thought we had changed the text on our site, but apparently we have not. Ill make sure that it is reworded soon.
