Question for Sal, Sharpmaker - Straight Razors?

Hey Sal! I was wondering if the ultra fine rods for the Sharpmaker could be used to hone straight razors? I notice most sharpening instructions recommend a large stone for honing a razor, so would the rods on the Sharpmaker be to thin? Ever tried this? Also, what is the approx grit value of those rods? Thanks!

i don't know the grit equivalents offhand, but if you own a sharpmaker, you will find that there is a configuration that allows for using two stones flat side-by-side for a single stone type effect. place them next to one another point-down on the underside and you get a (checking now) 7x1" (rough measure using my leatherman) surface. not too shabby. if you are good with stones, you should be able to make it work.
