Question for Sal

This is a bit cheeky Sal, but I am going to return my Spyderco Terzola Starmate folder that I spoke to you several months ago about.

Basicly the lock colapses with frightening ease with the slightest spine tap, using two fingers is enough to get it to fail. This knife is over a year old, but due to moving house and other things I have not got around to doing anything about this. I simply retired the knife and put this on the back burner as something to do.

Well my question is this, I know that the excellent Spyderco service will put this 100% right, but would it be possible to trade 'up' to the S30V Military? I am happy to pay the difference if there is one.

As much as I am sure the Terzola would be fine once sorted, the lock failure has made me loose confidence in the knife in a serious way. None of my other Spyderco blades (and I have quite a lot!) have ever given me problems like this.

Deep down I know this is a knife I simply would not trust and basicly would thus rarely get used. I know this is a bit cheeky Sal, but is this at all possible?

The knife has barely been used, for obvious reasons!:(

General, you might want to call Mike @ Warranty about it. He's the expert at this. And I think you could trade for something else instead, again, he'd have the answer.
As to the failure, did you buy it this way? I've a Starmate here that have exceptional lockup.
I've just taken mine out, and carefully try to fail the lock with my hands, but it holds up like a rock. There isn't even a slightest sign that my Starmate is wrong....

My Starmate locks up just fine.
But, I handled a Military, in a store, that had bad lockup similar to what The General describes for his Starmate. I've seen bad lockup from other companies as well.

Just mailed Mike to ask. I was also going to return my ATS-55 Matriarch and blue delica, but won't bother with those as Spyderco said a little while ago the rust problems would most likely not be due to problems with the ATS-55 steel. To be honest as the matriarch is not a utilty folder I suppose I can live with that and the blue Delica I will carry more often and see if the rust continues. It is one of the few blades that I have that has suffered noticable pitting even with fairly regular inspections and a careful treatment with rust inhibiting products.:(

As to liner locks, I think this is a common problem if a liner lock is even slightly out of kilter. Though my Military blades (2) are perfect in this regard. :)

General: Emailing to the Warranty people takes way too long. you'd want to phone them up.

Sent a second e-mail. Must have got lost somewhere.

To directly quote Sal

"6. Customer caring and concern. The customer being the ELU. We believe that the End Line User is the most important part of the business chain."

So I am sure they just did not get my first e-mail. I have yet to be disapointed with Spyderco.

Got a reply at last!:)

Its an automated response I think, but what the heck, I will return the knife and hope they will let me change the knife.:p
