Question for Sebenza Owners

Well, I'm thinking about getting a small Sebenza. Just thinking. I really, really like the wood inlaid models, but I have a couple of questions. I like the regular model over the classic due to the lack of a large cut-out over the lock. Is the classic model easy to accidently disengage? Are the wood inlays available in the regular model? I've been reading as much as I can on the Sebenza using the search function, but I can't find these things. Finally, where do you all get your Sebenzas? I've found several retailers carry Sebenzas, but I've had a lot of trouble finding any of the wood-inlaid models. Thanks!

I can try to answer a few of your questions... I own a large classic wood inlay, and I can't even imagine accidentally disengaging the lock. When you hold the knife, your grip actually makes the lock stronger, because you are holding the lockbar itself. As far as I know, you can get wood on the regular, though it will have to be a Limited Edition run, which are numbered with the year they were produced, and more expensive. I picked up my sebenza off of a member here at BF, though I see plenty around; like www.TrueNorthKnives.com has some Classics, though the site doesn't have any of the LE woodies. Keep an eye out, and I don't believe you'll regret any Chris Reeve knife purchase you make!

GG covered it pretty well. From my experience with the large wood inlaid Classics, which are my favorite, I have never had the lock bar to disengage accidentily due to the cutout. When I first saw the Classic, the cutout was also my first concern but after having about a dozen of them I can say with no hesitation that the lockbar is not going to disengage for that reason.

Thanks, guys, this is helping. Is there much difference in grip integrity between the small classic and the small regular?

I think most people will tell you there isn't much difference in grops. However, I will say the reason there are two types of Sebenzas is because the "regular" model is an improvement over the classic and is more ergonomic.

Once the blade is open, where the cutout is on the knife to open it becomes a great place to grip the knife with your index finger. I think that's lacking from the classic model's cutout which is just a half circle.

My opinion is that the larger cut-out on the classic model, both large and small, makes it easier to grip with respect the regular version Sebenza.

I don't feel, however, that the larger cut-out makes the classic more prone to accidental closure.

I don't agree. I don't see how the regular model is an "improvement" on the classic model. They are simply different. Personally, I find the classic to be more ergonomic.

I like the classic better, much easier to unlock and my finger falls right in that notch when using.

Unfortunately the LE wood inlay only come in the "regular" configuration.

Thanks guys. I tend to hold knives in a hammer (natural) grip when using them. Much difference between the two ergonomically in that grip?

I like the regular over the classic. I am lucky, I have a knife shop in town that stocks a large number of CRK's. I felt each one in my hand, the choice was then obvious. If you are going to spend the bucks to get a Sebbie, try to find a shop that will allow you to handle each one/ Good Luck-they are great knives :)
