Question for Shirogorov owners about lockup

Hi guys,

I've had my Shiro 95 CF inlay for about a month now, and I've noticed that I can very easily push the lock bar further into the tang of the blade while gripping the knife with light pressure or manually pushing the lock bar in with very minimal pressure. This results in a change from the original classic early shiro 15-20% lockup to around 50-100% lockup. I can't even do this on cheaper production knives like Spyderco or ZT, let alone a $1000 knife.

It really bugs me because whenever I use the knife normally such as food prep I will always inadvertently push the lock bar further in which creates very bad lock stick.

Is this just the way Shiro's lock geometry is designed? Does anyone else have this issue?

Thanks

Doesn't it have an overtravel stop mechanism for both directions?

Let's see a picture of yours like this...

Even if it has an over travel stop to keep the lock from pushing too far in, then he still has a problem. If the lockbar is maxed out at the over travel stop, eventually he's gonna get lock rock if he doesn't already.

That is, if his pivot screw is tightened properly. If not, his knife is probably fine.

I had a TSF Beast that did this. I was told it was defective. What's happening is that the lockbar is deforming and that allows the lockup to change. Basically the lockbar is flexing in a way that is not supposed to happen.

OP, I have to ask: did you buy your Shiro from a reputable dealer or seller? I ask because these knives are amongst the highest ranked in terms of counterfeiting and cloning; they are everywhere. My F3, while it is a liner lock, still has a substantial "beefiness" to the lock bar and face. I cannot even force the lock face over a nanometer. Zilch movement on mine and in fact it locks up stronger than any other knife I've owned or do own. I think you have a defective model. Post some pics of your knife and the box and card and maybe we can direct you in the right direction. There are a few members here who deal exclusively in Russian-made knives and they have already answered questions I have had.

I hope this guides you somewhat as I agree, a Shirogorov--bearing the title of one of the most expensive production knives--should not have issues as big as yours.

Good Luck man!

Edited to add: My F3 has a lockup of about 11% on the tang of the blade, and about ~18% of the lock face prior to the over travel mech.

I've owned two F95Ts and have never had an issue with lockbar travel, to the extent that you are describing. I've had instances where I would very lightly flip the knife and it would engage earlier than typical, but if pressure were applied it would never move passed standard engagement (if flipped with regular pressure).

First and foremost, I would check to make sure that the lockbar interface is clean and clear of any grease/oil. In addition, I would also check and make sure that the blade (where the lockbar interfaces with the steel) is clean of grease/oil. Let's see if that cures some of the lock bar movement and lock stick.

Thanks guys. It is definitely an original Shirogorov, and the lock face and tang is clean - no oil/grime. I haven't been able to adjust the pivot yet as I am away from home for a few days.

My problem is described here by Jdavis882 who seems to have the same issue as me. Sorry if i wasn't able to describe it well
