Question for skunk

Use some mineral oil on your handles and see if they darken up like the pic. Also, there are some variations in the micarta, and unfortunately you can't tell exactly how dark some of the variations are until it is machined. So there will be some differences on all of the micarta's even if they are supposed to be the same color.

:D:D

I just used very little olive oil :D
Just a few drops on a cloth and wiped the scales with it.
The scales are still a little white but I did not want to have the scales soaked with oil because than it gets slippery.

will the oil create a slippery surface, or bleed out when used?

No and not really.

To elaborate, all you want to do is take a rag that is _damp_ (not soaking) with mineral oil and rub the handles with it. While you are at it, give the blades a rub too. Mineral oil is non-toxic and perfectly safe to use with food. It also won't go rancid like olive oil will.

It enhances the color more than it changes it. As far as the bleed out factor, I find that the effect tends to fade over time is you don't use the blade. Eventually, your natural body oils will darken the handle. When that happens, you can wash or bead blast them clean again.

Nice pic:thumbup: Thnx for sharing.

Maybe something a bit more hypoallergenic for sensitive skin was in order.

Bacon grease? A bit slippery in warm weather but your hands really stick to the greased Micarta come winter time. :D

Where are all the pork icons? The Busse forum needs "Swinecons".

Gun oil , as in Hoppe's? Birchwood Casey?
