I know some people may say this thread is being placed in the wrong sub-forum. If it gets moved, so be it. I decided to post it here because I know it will probably get more eyeballs on it.

My question is, why did SOG at some point redesign the shape of the dagger blade on the Pentagon dagger?

I personally liked the old design better, it made it fairly unique. Now, the Pentagon looks like almost any other dagger, it had character....and now it's gone.

see what you mean.
and you're not the only one who clamor for the older version

the blade shape change is a truly confounding "but why??!" question.
unfortunately an answer to which mystery,
only the manufacturer can adequately provide.
but i'll say this much,
that it's unobtrusive handle and guardless feature
meant that it one was able to execute quick draws
with multiple handle gripping styles.
that made it a favorite close protection tool.
IMO, the new wider tip might produce
a blade tip slightly less prone to extreme stresses
(which could induce tip damage or snappings),
when compared to the acutely angled tapered pointed tip of old.
but this is just my 2 cents.

I like SOG. I don't have any of their daggers but do have some folders (both manual and auto) and like the quality. For the price, you can't go wrong with SOG.

Yeah, I'd be willing to give SOG a shot but, it just bums me out that they changed the blade shape of the Pentagon SOO drastically. :(

Because the competition is tough and because the market/customers demand new stuff.

Adapt or die.

I have the old version and far prefer that as well.

The best example of a SOG going through various facelifts, is the Tomcat.

I remember having had.the chance to buy the original version of the SOG Tomcat and kick myself for not having bought it.

It was a great folder.

Now in its current guise (gen 3/4/5?) changed beyond recognition for the worse ...
.... but the customers want new features/looks.
