Sorry for all the questions,

I'm trying to build a small survival kit to augment what's in our flight vests. Here's the rub, I'd like to fit it in the smallest possible container.. That being said here's the question,

Could anyone test or does anyone know if the E&E kit will fit in the pouch that comes with the RC-5 Molle/Jumpable/Pouch kit?

Reason I want it so small is, I have to mount it on my flight vest amongst all of my other stuff (ie ammo, pistol, monkey strap, radio, etc). The only thing I'm planning to replace off the vest is the ASEK knife which is inverted. Hence the need for the Kit.

Thanks for the help!

No it won't fit in the pouch but you give us an idea. We might consider making a larger pouch for the Junglas sheath that would hole it or an emergency medical kit. But the E&E kit does have attachement points that might work to attach to your flight vest. There are two small loops 9one on each end) and a belt loop so you may beb able to rig something with paracord? Mike

It's not a huge amount of room, but you can get a good bit of stuff into the tin with the pouch. I've focused my tin on fire and wood collection, but you can get pretty creative with them. I've recently decided to ditch the tin, and just have the saw, an SAK, some tinder and a rat firekit stuffed into the pouches. would still be jumpable I suppose with the lanyards looped through the pouch clip. Since the photos I've also added microsteam AAA lights to the setups.

Duh....I didn't think of this before but take one of the MOLLE clips we sell and run it through the belt loop then you can attach the above survival kit to any MOLLE compatible vest or gear. Mike

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm thinking I'll go raid the ALSE shop and see what I can get for the tin and load it like that..

On a side note, my HEST came in yesterday! So I've been monkeying around with it most of the night (I work 0000-1200). I've a configuration that works now, some more 550 on the sheath, trial and error on carry techniques.. and after shaving my arm hair, opening a water bottle the wrong way, and prying open a shaving can I can say this,

RAT, you guys make one hell of a knife! Besides me, you can expect more than a few orders from us out here in the desert.

(Izula on the way, RC-5 (probably or a RC-4) on order soon)

Thanks again guys.. Just have to get to 25 posts and I can join the club!!!

BTW: Any chance I could reserve a number? It's my callsign/first hawk in the Army (long time ago!).

Thanks a million!

Jack, something you might want to look into is a couple pouches that High Speed Gear Inc makes. If you ask around the sandbox, there's a bunch of operators that use their gear. They make a pouch called the EOD/E&E pouch that comes in two sizes. The smaller size is small enough to fit on your flight vest. It has a bunch of internal pockets for organization and is attachable via MOLLE. It would fit all the gear in the survival kit plus some add ons of your own. Give it a look and stay safe!

and in general numbers are not requested, because everyone and their brother wants to do it, but since you are active duty i think Mr Shotty might make an exception, but he is the one to ask.

TTD, would the small, black round object in the lower left corner of this pic happen to be some sort of handcuff key (plastic) with moulding sprues still attached for some other reason? If so, where do I get one of those?

Speaking of survival kits, has anyone else used a Redi-Edge sharpener? Something like this:

retacticalitem.jpg

Located here: Klawhorn/Redi-Edge Sharpeners

I've got the one pictured above as well as the "dog-tag" version - two different sharpening angles for different purposes. The both fit nicely in small packaging for mini kits, but they sure do a fairly good job for a "quickie" type sharpener. I'm one of the Lansky/EdgePro type of guys for normal sharpening duties, but these make quick work of a pretty good edge. They work well on my ESEE 5. I know this is probably best for a different thread on sharpening, but I figured since we're talking survival kits, I'd throw this out there. (No, I'm not on the payroll or anything for Redi-Edge. I've just used these and have found them to be good tools for the task.)

Hey thanks for the pictures everyone. I'm going to continue to work on it in the coming months. If I can find a camera I'll post what I got.

Ok, so another stupid question.

I have looked and studied the pictures.. Just thought I would ask. Will the RC-5 pouch fit on the RC-4 w/ MOLLE? If I ordered the RC-4 with the MOLLE and everything and ordered the pouch with it's longer hardware. Then if I took the -4 sheath off the MOLLE back and then put it all back together with pouch, would the pouch physically fit on the sheath with tin installed? Again, I'm not trying to be a bother, I'm just looking for what will work for me. Thanks

Jack

The reason I'm asking this time is that the ASEK had to be mounted weird to keep the end of it from hitting my neck when I'm the aircraft. So I thought to myself, if I had a tad bit shorter blade it might work out better. Thanks for looking!

Jack,
I believe this has been asked before and the answer was that you would need to drill a new pair of holes in the sheath, because the hole spacing on the ESEE5 pouch is just a bit farther apart than those on the ESEE4 sheath top to bottom. (unless you attach it with some 550 cord)
