There's a chance I'm going to be in Darwin in a couple of weeks. Anything special you'd recommend doing in that area? I'll most likely only be there for 36-48 hours.

Depends on what you're into man but I believe there is quite a bit of WWII stuff there. Could be cool to check out. Also, if you can get out for a bit, hook up with someone for some croc spotting. Lots of salties around there.

Litchfield Park is a popular day trip from Darwin with a bit of most of the local terrains and wildlife, except salties 'cause there are a number of swimming holes there they do try to keep them out. Further down the road is Edith Falls near to Katherine which is good for birds and swimming. But you would be mid-wet season which may make access to some places difficult and the great outdoors hot and sweaty. And swimming can be risky at that time, too easy for salties to move around without being spotted. Specatcular for the waterfalls, though, if you can get near them. Probably not enough time to get to Kakadu and back and actually see anything worth seeing unless you enjoy nothing so much and driving and jogging in tropical heat. But Howard Springs and Fogg Dam are in that direction but closer to Darwin. Personally, I find Darwin itself fairly easy on the eyes for a small city at least along the waterfront. There is (or at least was) a bit of a regular fish feeding down by one of the boat ramps. Is it Fannie Bay? Can't recall. Nice for a sunset and mangroves not far. Not sure if the jumping crocs tour will be running, but that would be an easy way to see a bit of the area and maybe get an interesting photo if they are. I really hope you have a great time.

There is a fantastic Aviation Museum there.
Fanny Bay Military Museum.
There's a Casino.
I don't think they would have started yet for the year but the Mindil Beach Markets are a bit of a melting pot.
Litchfield is spectacular!
I don't know if the Adelaide River Queen in running (croc spotting & feeding).

There's a fair bit to do however some of it may be a bit far away to do in your limited time.

Thanks everyone, hope the trip works out. Australia has been on my bucket list for a while. Wish I had a week or more to spend.

36-48 hours definitely isn't enough to tick off the bucket list. Make sure you come back for a proper visit!

Bad time of the year weather wise. Lots of roads closed, high humidity and you cant swim at the beach because of box jellyfish. All the pubs are open so it's not a complete loss.

I live there so feel free to pm me for info.
