Question? for the Axe guys

Sure if you want to pay $60 and shipping.

Look at it this way.

If you needed a new hammer. Are you going to buy a $60 hammer from overseas, or one that will get the job done from home right now? As in a flea market/Ebay/wherever u get it from?

[W]e believe the axe compares favorably to the axes you find in the big box stores.

That falls under the category of damning with faint praise. I would hope is it better,

Well I guess it is safe to say that Mueller does not have a big following like some other brands.

Ask yourself this - what is the intended purpose, how much cash do I have, and what will really be the value of the piece when it is all said and done?

i get those guys catalogs. sure the axe is foreign made. but, the purchase is from a small american company (mom and pop style). i dont know. they seem like nice axes to me. ( but hey, most do).:D
if you like it, get it...

I'm with Operator1975. There are certainly good new axes to be bought, but if you are looking for something for a little occasional use, there are just too many excellent older axes out there that you can find for a lot less. An old axe that has held up under the abuse that they almost all were subject to, has been field tested to the max and should last the rest of your lifetime with a little common sense care.

Well, to be honest I think I will go with a new fiskars X15, it is the 23.5 inch handle axe that they sell, I just have to find who has one, in my area or a good place online.

I don't have that particular style Mueller axe, but I do have a "Biber Classic" from Mueller. Very nice axe. The bit is quite thin, which works well for me, my style, and the kind of wood I cut. Might not be so useful for some folks.

The axe you posted looks to be similar (design-wise) to the "Biber Classic", just lower down the chain of that company's product.

And, yes, Traditional Woodworker is a very good outfit.

YMMV,

I believe i have the same axe as the one pictured, though sold under the "LUX" store-brand at a German "Home Depot" equivalent called "Obi". Mine has a blue color instead of the green in the Mueller photo... The shape, weight is exactly the same - as much as i can tell from the photo on that site.

Mine did come from the store needing to be sharpened (something i'm in the process of - as well as re-profiling a bit to a slighter angle).

EDIT:

OK, sorry, i needed to get over seeing my axe on the internet!!!

The axe itself is OK, but the alignment isn't as straight as i'd like. However, that may aid in splitting - i haven't actually gotten out with it yet.

In hand, it seems a little "head-heavy" for the length, but it's not too bad. I think i'd like a slightly shorter handle, but again it's pretty good. My axe's over all length is exactly 60cm meaning 23.62" - round up and you've got 24" and yep, it's from Ash.

I looked at the "Additional Images" and the handle on my axe is shaped/curved differently, but the head is a dead-ringer.

I'll try to take some pics and post 'em up... Maybe it's not the same maker, but if not it's an absolute, exact copy.

EDIT II:
My axe is a "Helko Werk" brand so probably different in some way..... Sorry....
