I know I could do a lot of searching to find the answer but I would rather just ask the experts.
What was the largest fixed blade knife that Buck put out? Is it the 124?

I remember on a hunting trip many years ago I seen one of those big black handled knives and after all these years I want one!

Thanks for your help.

Of these 6 big fixed blades the 124 Frontiersman sports the shortest overall length but wow is it a terrific knife.

Top to bottom overall length:

Hoodlum 15.5"
Empress Trio Large Carver 14"
Bowie 13"
Intruder 13"
General 12"
Frontiersman 11.75"

My pleasure MTURBO. I don't get to swing these knives in anger so taking photographs gives me a reason to handle and admire them.

There are bowies with broader blades than the 124. The D-Guard comes to mind. A bit above my pay grade but I hope that someone posts a photo or two of one. That would be a Thanksgiving treat for sure. While waiting here is a borrowed photo for your amusement:

The legacy knives offer even longer versions in some cases since back in the day you could order a fixed blade knife with your desired blade length. Also, the fantastic bowie knives of Frank Buck were often quite large.

The longest Factory custom shop offer to the public was the 124 from the custom shop, you could pay an up-charge for each extra inch of blade you wanted. Not many of these extra long 124's were ever ordered and made.

Here is two more long blade Buck knives the 909 Mountain Bowie and the 903 Bowie.

So you could pay extra for each you wanted? was there a limit?

Yes, you just paid extra for the knife and the original Custom Shop would make one for you. I've seen collectors with 124's that had 12" blades on them. DM

I learn something new everyday, here. Very interesting. I knife about the custom 124s but I did not know you could order knives with longer blades.

Don't forget the 901 Scimitar ;)
