Question for the CS experts: original Peace Keeper content!

Hey guys, I just recently picked up a Peace keeper I fixed blade, the older version with DE, off the big fleamarket on the ol' interwebz. I have long admired this sexy dagger.

I then discovered that there used to be a San Mai version of the Peace Keeper II.

My question for those CS fans with long memories is: does anyone remember if there was a SM version of the Peace Keeper I as well?

There was a San Mai Peace Keeper I with a 7" blade and kraton handle. Was not offered for long and sold fast.

As far as blade designs go, weren't the Peace Keeper blade and the Taipan blade VERY similar? Wouldn't a San Mai Peace Keeper I essentially be a Taipan with a Peace Keeper handle?

I have the Taipan and both Peacekeepers. The Peacekeeper blades are wider towards the tip of the blade than close to the handle. The Taipan blade is the same width until it narrows at the tip.
I think the Taipan blade is aesthetically much superior.

Tai Pan also has a half inch more blade than the Peace Keeper.

Thanks for the info gents, I have found documented evidence of the San Mai PK1 (the larger PK) but as yet nothing to indicate that the smaller one was ever made in SM III.

Also found that all CS back catalogues are available for download on the website, so I am busy downloading them and tripping down memory lane.

I don't recall ever seeing a PK II in SMIII. I remember both knives in 420, Carbon V, AUS-8 and 4116, and I remember the more recent PK I in SMIII. They definitely didn't offer a PK II in SMIII when they came out with the PK I in that steel. The PK I was the only one of the pair to make the jump from 4116 to SMIII. The PK II was discontinued at that time.

edited to add: That doesn't necessarily mean there isn't one out there that I'm not aware of. My knowledge of CS products is fairly extensive but not encyclopedic.

Thanks, I think you are on the money... I have not seen any evidence of a PK II in San Mai. Still working through the catalogues!

Apart from being slightly wider, the PeaceKeeper's tip is also markedly thinner (more delicate) compared to the Tai Pan, and much like the tip on the OSS. Might very well be more prone to snapping upon contact with hard surface. Got all three of the above in San Mai and would say the Tai Pan is the most solidly constructed of the three. I would even go so far as to say one can even hack with the Tai Pan in a pinch. The heft and overall balance of the blade just make it a superior fighter.
