Spend most of my time with the Beckerheads but have a Spyderco question, so I thought I would ask people with a passion for these knives.

I'm looking at a few folders(low end).
1. Tenacious
2. Byrd cara cara
3. Byrd meadowlark

My question is are these knives worth there low price or are they low priced junk.
Would I be better off saving my money and buy a better knife or are these ok for everyday utility.
Thanks in advance.

1+ for the Tenacious I carried it for a year before I lost it. It was a great knife.

I have a Tenacious and a Meadowlark, I think they are definitely good products worth what they sell for.

I used a full serrated tenacious for about 2-3 months as a work edc (hvac) I broke about 1.5" off the tip one day (totally my fault) but let me tell you that thing was a work horse!! I would cut rubber roofs, plastic bands, cardboard, shingles, 8 wire t stat wire, use it to pry stuff, and so much more. I dropped it off a scissor lift from about 30ft open and it was fine. I would buy another tenacious in a heartbeat, in fact I'm going to buy a new replacment one for work tomorrow :)

Personally, I would go with the Tenacious. They are all fine knives in their price range.

Tenacious, for i dislike how the choil on the byrd cara2/meadowlark are made... i am not expert btw and this based on my exp...

Instead of a tenacious, i prefer an Endura but i figure liner lock would suit you better.

Thanks for the feedback.
2nd question tenacious or endura, which would you choose.

The Byrds are Spyderco's cheaper line - they're just Ok, IMHO. The Tenacious, however, is excellent for the price.

2nd question tenacious or endura, which would you choose.

Endura, hands down. It has better steel (VG-10) and a stronger lock (lock-back). I also think it's more comfortable in the hand because it has contoured handle scales. Plus, if it matters to you, it's made in Japan as opposed to China.

The Endura definitely has better steel but between the two I still would prefer the Tenacious. I like the G-10, shape of the blade and how it feels in the hand. Both are great knives though.

I do not think you will go wrong with a tenacious. I have one and love it, and frankly I think it is a steal for the $40 ish it costs. It gets about as much pocket time as knives that cost well over $40.

Tenacious & Endura feels totally different in hand. Somehow, Tenacious feels more robust.

A better comparison would be Resilience & Endura.

I'd say for introduction into Spyderworld, Tenacious series are best. If you don't like, you can stop. I doubt you'd stop after having one and will end up going up to Bradley ;)

The Byrd line lacks the Spyderco smoothness, though for EDC, a Cara2 is Endura in economy class.

Spend a few more bucks and go for a fully serrated delica... You can't truly appreciate spyderco until you have tried the cutting machine that is the spyderedge.

I own a few Tenacious and they are a steal for $30. I personally recommend the Byrd Robin or Raven, those are nice EDC's and they'll only set you back $20ish. I think G-10 is a bit heavy for my taste, so I agree with those above me who said to just spend a bit more and pick the Endura or Delica. For $20 more you get VG-10 steel, which once you try you'll never really want to go back 8Cr13MOV.

Seems to me that a knife with G10 and steel liners would always be heavier than something with just FRN, and that makes if feel more robust. In reality I don't know if it really is tougher or not.

I would prefer the Tenacious because I generally don't respect knives with FRN handles because they are not nearly as smooth as knives with liners, and I almost completely refuse to buy lockback knives. I have been a little bit interested in a Stretch and a Manix 2 LW, so I sometimes do make some exceptions.
