Big Howdy from Sunny Lake Charles Louisiana, where it's always hot and wet. Few questions for you guys.

I don't know of any knifesmiths in the nearby area, I'd like to know if there are any around here. I've been tossing around the idea of trying my hand at knifemaking as a hobby and wanted to know if there were any in the area that I could talk to and visit with to get a little knowledge before I leap in. I have a friend that runs a Truck Equipment company in town that can get me good prices on 1095 and 5160 steel to begin with and he has contacts in the steel industry that can get me pretty much anything else I could ever want to mess with if I decide to step up to some of the high end stuff. I've read on the internet on making forges, heat treating, and tempering so I do have a rough idea of what is involved.

Thanks for the help,

The American Bladesmith Society school is not far away either, over in Washington,Ark. You can learn more in a week there than you could learn in a year by yourself.
