Can anyone give me the history on a Modified Talon 1421ST? I remember someone mentioning that it was the first "waved" knife and a short run, too...

Any detailed info is greatly appreciated! (And I'll post pics as soon as it gets here! :D)

Spiral had posted a link to an interesting web article about it a while back.

Check this out, it's a good read

I have a G10 and a Ti Talon. I love them both.

Think about this: Emerson patented the wave in 1999, this knife equiped with bottle opener came out before that. Interesting how close Kershaw was to that particular innovation.

And Dave posted this.

It actually was a production knife Mod. #1421ST it was called Modified Talon and had a retail (suggested) price of $130 in the 1997 catalog. These are hard to come by today and will easily bring $100 to $150 in Mint condition. They are not speed assisted. They are titanium frames and ATS34 steel and were produced one year prior to Ken onions speed safe knives ( A.O )

Thanks kd. The one I picked up for $ 85 is NIB. The "B" is a little rough, as it appears it's been under a pile of other boxes, but other than that, all papers are with it and there's not a scratch on it. Blade looks perfect with the factory grind. There's a price sticker on the end of the box that reads $ 129.75.

Trusting in Dave's valuation ability, I'd say a got a pretty good deal! :D

That is a really good deal! I have the non "waved" ( actually a bottle opener, I know) , Ti version and I'll tell you they are really well made, nice knives. Kershaw had a way with ATS 34 too, and you can count on the heat treat being done well. Probably RC 60-61 actual, I'd bet.

Good find! Joe

Thanks Joe. I'm looking forward to getting it here!

I plan on sending you an email Wednesday of next week if OK...Hope all's well with you!

Doin ok. Finn and I were cleaning the house. I clean , and he follows around knocking stuff off the table with his tail. :)

I hope things are going well for you too.

"next week if OK"
No problem, no hurry. It'll wait. joe

I certainly won't be able to add anything to what has been offered , except that for $85 , you not only got a cool knife , but you got a certified deal as well. I have not seen one go for that kind of money in years, if at all. Nice score, Enjoy !!
