Question for those who own the sebenza 25

Hey guys,

So I just received my 25 today. It truly is amazing. I did notice something though that might be totally normal because of the new ceramic ball but I figured I'd ask the guys that already have 25's to see what's going on. If I have the knife an any position that is not fully closed or fully open, say the knife is half way between open and shut, if I place my two fingers on each side of the blade and put a tiny tiny bit of pressure on the knife barley trying to move it up and down, I feel a little wiggle. I'm not talking about blade play, or side to side play, but rather a wiggle up and down. Now obviously the blade is suppose to move in this direction but it's not the regular motion of the knife opening. It's more of a wiggle that actually produces a sound if I put it close to my ear. My other sebenza 21's don't do this but maybe this is normal because of the oversized ball detent or something. Anyways, let me know if this is normal or not. Thanks guys!

I never checked the 25 I had but I remember a few of My Sebenza's doing this.

I just tried it but I think what I felt was the lock bar moving as I "wiggled" it. I can see how it could feel like wobble though.

Cool. I figured it was normal but being OCD about this stuff I figured I'd check. Anyways, having received this knife only a few hours ago, I have been admiring it.... I think my favorite part is the thicker blade, so stout..... The finger grooves line up perfectly with my hands and I am a big fan of the bigger pivot. The smaller pivot on the 21 is solid as a rock so the large pivot on the 25 which is the same pivot on the Umnum is a great addition to the thicker blade to keep the knife as stout as possible. Some people has said that there 25 wasn't as smooth as their 21 because it lacked the busing system but I think my 25 is just as smooth as my 21 large and small and even more so....

I guess it's just weird. Even when I push the blade out I can feel it "catch" right when I push on the blade to open it. Any other 25 owners have this?

Its normal. The pivot cannot have a close tolerance fit and still move so easily. When locked open tension is applied to the pivot and eliminates this movement

I think it's normal, but I'll go check mine when I get home in 10 min and report back.

I think it is extremely abnormal, ShakeAndBake, and you should sell it to me immediately :)

Haha, I'll make sure to do that. In fact, I'll go ahead and send you all of my sebbies just to make sure they pass your quality control : ) By the way ur username is awesome. U like the new JJ Abrahms Star Trek movies? I actually was a Star Wars guy and then I went to see JJ Star Trek a few years ago and I then got into all the older Star Trek sows, especially the next generation. So good.

I'm pretty sure I don't detect any movement, but I have cleaned and re-greased. I have mine pretty tight too so I think that could be why I don't notice it. Either way I'm sure your 25 is spot on:thumbup:

Pretty sure its the slight play within the tolerance of the female screw barrel that's in the inner circle of the pivot cutout in the blade tang. The movement you feel is the slack being taking up before the blade actually rotates on the bushings.

I have various knives from different makers and some have more than others but if I try hard enough, I can detect a very slight ammount on most of them. My Sebenza 21 I cannot, probably due to the fact I have my pivot tighter than normal and the bushing is already a pretty darn close tolerance.

Yes, the re-boot was phenomenal. But to me ST:TNG was the best. "Make it so.'

Just an update guys, I took apart my 25 and replaced the old grease with new and it got ride of whatever that wiggle I was feeling. Yey! I'm taking some pics right now and also some side by sides of my 25 and 21 for fun. I'll post a new thread. Thanks for the replies!

haha "Make it so" or my personal favorite "Tea, earl grey, hot"
I can honestly say that the JJ Abrams Star Trek is my favorite movie and I have a lot of favorite movies. I'm a film and video production major so naturally I like my movies.... ha. I don't think I've ever been as excited for a movie than I am for the new Star Trek : Into Darkness. It's gonna be a good one. I love the actor that plays the villan. You gotta love TNG though. I also am a huge fan of all the movies with picard, even some of the old ones with spock.

Now you'll get the best of both worlds since JJ Abrams is doing the next round of Star Wars movies. Should be excellent!

I'm actually very excited about the fact that JJ Abrams is doing the new Star Wars movies. A lot of people HATE the fact that there are other Star Wars movies other than the original 3 which are obviously the best ones, but I love that they made more, and are going to continue to make more. But yeah, to say the least I am stoked about the new Star Wars movies.
