I am considering buying a 761 and I was wondering how your knives are holding up, especially the edge retention aspect. There seems to be a wide array of opinions about this knife so I am looking for real world feedback.

I haven't used mine a ton, but m390 is favorite steel that Benchmade uses. Mine is still screaming sharp just like it came from the factory.

Thanks for replying, any issues with the pivot becoming lose? I had been thinking about spending the money on a Sebenza but after reading about issues about the edge retention I am glad to read that the M390 is holding up bester than what I have read about the S35V on the Sebenza.

I've been carrying mine pretty much every day for the last couple of months. I work in a warehouse type environment and cut all kinds of plastic, paper, cardboard, nylon banding, etc., and I've only had to sharpen the blade once, and that was just in the last week or so. I can't say that I've ever had a blade hold an edge as well as my 761 has, it's been very impressive. I don't like the mono / frame lock as well as an Axis, but I've gotten used to it and love everything else about the knife. The detent is plenty strong on my knife, I know some guys have complained about it on theirs, but mine is perfect. I can't recommend the 761 enough. Brad.

My pivot did come loose, which isn't surprising considering the oiled finish on the Ti handles. I put a little blue locktite on it, got it adjusted properly, and it hasn't moved since.

I also put Griptilian thumbstuds on it so I can have ambidextrous opening. They fit really nicely and Benchmade sent them no charge.

Main complaint is the pocket clip- it's tip down only and it's really tight on thick pockets. Super secure, but you need to use two hands to get it clipped. I'm sure someone will dial in a different clip as more of the knives get out there.

I agree with Nickites. The dual thumb stud would be awesome, anyone know of the same style thumb stud thats ambidextrous.
Im really not to fond of the griptilian stud.

Mine has held up so far without any issues. And i use the 761 as my beater/secondary blade.

I did make a deep carry titanium clip for it. Which is a world of difference on how it sits in the pocket.
Ill ad a pic or 2 latter on. It cost less than $2 for the clip but you have to do the work to get it rite.

I love the blade shape and the beautiful Ti milling of the grip. I will never buy a CRK because of the weak vanilla design. I am truly baffled when pics of Sebenzas popup and comments of how sweet or beautiful follow. The Sebenza is the most boring knife at a ridiculous price.
Not the 761. It has great design and a stellar steel too. Price wasn't shocking to me. It was only $40 more than my Fluted titanium Military.

I got mine in December and have carried it about 1/3 of the time since then. It has held up well with no pivot issues and the blade is holding the dual bevel edge I put on it extremely well. However, I don't think anything less would be acceptable considering I've only had it 2 1/2 months. I hope I can report the same thing after 2 1/2 years.

Huge fan of Benchmade, had doubts about their framelocks for quite sometime. I think I'll actually look into getting this knife now!

I really like my 761. I think it's a keeper. I'm at ta point in my life where I'm not worried about how much something costs. It's a tip top tool. That said, it's not a Sebenza.

If you're only going to have one, save up for a Crk.

I agree with your Sebenza comments.

I would have never bought one of these knives had I not stopped by a local shop in BR and had it in hand. I love the action and the way the lock sounds and feels when it engages. This is my first integral lock and ball bearing knife. I haven't used it all that much since getting it, so I can't speak to the edge retention of the steel. I'm almost ashamed to admit that it's just been a piece of pocket jewelry on the handful of occasions that I've carried it.
