Question for Walt (or anyone that knows)

Last week there was a thread regarding the choice of companion for a survival knife. I believe that it was Walt Welch that responded with a fairly comprehensive list of medical items.

On that list he included Betadine solution and noted that about 10 drops of Betadine could be added to a liter of water to purify it.

The Betadine soution in my kit is 10% povidone-iodine. Is Betadine always sold in this concentration? Are the numbers you gave in your post applicable to a 10% initial concentration? If not, what initial concentration were you refering to?

Thanks

Steve, I can't help you out, but I do know our friend Walt has been at Knifegnugen '99, and should be back soon.

Our friend Walt Welch e-mailed me the following from on the road, asking me to post for him:

The fact of the matter is that Betadine (povidone iodine) is sold in one
strength only, 10 %. You take ten drops of this and add it to one liter of
water to purify the water. Works for amoeba, Giardia, etc.
