I wanted to ask y'all how you're liking your Vintage Knives Moose(s?) (meese?), because I was kinda wanting one. I trust y'all, so what's the verdict?

I would be interested, too. I have been looking at them for a year now. Are they really worth the extra dollars?

I've got one and it is a great knife. Very well made. I'm not sure, but I thought they were made by Queen?? It is definately a finger breaker-hard to open!!

I had one and sold it. I did like the knife and it was well made like jivedaddy said. It was just too hard for me to open. I tried all the tricks that folks here suggested but nothing seemed to help much. I hated to let it go because I did really like it, just couldn't open it.

Looks to be very similar construction to this Queen made Winchester from Blue Grass back in '88.

It's a great knife and I really like mine. I was just giving it a little touch-up this morning.

Stout little piece in the pocket.

I wish I'd known you were getting rid of it, because I really like the look of them.

Reading about them on the Vintage Knives site, it sounded like Billy had asked for really strong springs.

I have two, and would like to trade one, so I may be in conflict of interest by commenting, but I sure like them. I just don't need both. I think the lines are a little more "curvey" than the winchester, but otherwise, quite similar.

P.S. they are big, beefy knives, and made in carbon steel. Without abuse, they should last indefinitely! But you will have to have a tough thumbnail 'till the spring "breaks in".
In one of the repair books, I recall seeing a procedure for softening a too-tough spring, but I don't think I'd do it here!

I'd be interested working a trade, if you're interested. Shoot me an email at blahblahblah

I've used one for EDC since late last year.

Pretty knife. Good fit and finish. Only compliaint with fit/finish is I can see a bit of daylight between the spring and scales. Hasn't got worse. The blade, bolsters and ebony are fit as good as custom.

It has the usualy thick queen edge. Sharp enough to cut paper, but real obtuse. It took a lot of time with a course diamond hone to thin it down to 20 degrees a side. That lead to a few scratches, not many on one blade. Too bad Vintage knives clouldn't have ordered the edge angle or sharpened them up themselves.

The blades springs are tough, but I like it that way. I oiled mine every day and worked the spring about 30 times for a month. Now I do it every week. It has loosened up a bit, my woman can open it now, but I like a stout spring so it's not a problem.

With the mirror polished blade, it gets a wild patina. However, I restore it every few days with Flitz and then oil it. I am trying to see how long the good finish on a 1095 blade will last if cared for. So far no pits.

I initially carried it in a knife "purse" but caught the bug on this forum and have been carrying it nude. It gets a few scratches on the bolsters, but hey-that's just life :) It was always meant to be a user, and with its tune-ups, IMHO it's better than anything in the Case, Queen, S&M, Canal Street and Great Eastern line.

Hi James,

Sorry it took me for ages to reply on that one.

Another one in the Moose camp!!!
My kind of people!! :D:thumbup:

Anyway - I really do like my Vintage Moose. It's a bit of a nailripper when opening it up (very strong springs) and, for my personal taste, it's a tad heavy to carry in my pocket.
BUT, it's a fantastic cutter and it's got a perfect blade combination.
The build shows great quality and I do really like the wood in the handle.
I can only highly recommend it.

/ Karl
