Question for Whirlwind owners (dealers?)

I have just bought another Kershaw - the Whirlwind. It was used but in very good condition. I have one question regarding the knife. The lanyard hole looks different then the one on any web site. There is something like small metal cylinder in it and it cannot be removed. There is very small hole in that cylinder so I doubt I could really use it as intended. The previous owner said that he had bought the knife new and that it was there from the beginning. I would like to know whether there is a reason for it or whether I can remove it somehow (drill it out).

On every picture I have seen so far there was regular lanyard hole - nothing similar to my case. Any comments?

My Whirlwind is the same way.I have`nt tried disassembling the knife but it looks like sone type of fastener used to secure the two halves of thr knife together.

Imagine what we could do if we thought we could not fail

The blade of my Whirlwind hits that metal cylinder and gets dull.

CRIPES, Knifedude! Send that sucker BACK!!! I don't have one, but I can tell you right now that it is a BAD thing when the edge comes in contact with something like that consantly!!!

That metal cylinder in the lanyard hole area is to help fasten the rear of the handle together (I believe). For those who like to tie a lanyard on the handle, that awfully small hole makes it kinda hard. But if you like using dental floss.....

I sent an e-mail to Kershaw - no reply so far. Do you guys think that the knife would fall apart if the cylinder was removed? I really do not like it there.
