I just got my plain edge carbon fiber Civilian today, the best Spyderco I have seen.
But... my aluminum handled plain edge Civilian came in a nice Spyderco pouch and this one came in a cardboard Spyderco box, what gives?
Did everyone receive theirs in a box instead of a pouch?

Even the G-10 Civilian comes in a pouch. I was disappointed as well. I'm only guessing, but I would imagine because of the increased costs of the carbon fiber handles, Spyderco was trying to keep the costs down by not adding the zipper pouch. I, however, would have been willing to pay a few extra bucks for the pouch. I think they add a lot of class to the overall package!!! You can buy those direct from Spyderco Factory Outlet.

Now that you mention it, I completely overlooked the fact that my plain and serrated CF civie's came in boxes! That's okay though, as the knives went right from the boxes to the display case.

Hello all,
I just got my CF Civilian a couple of weeks ago and yes, it came in a box with no zipper pouch.
I know that it is only a pouch and it can be purchased seperately but I am extremely disappointed with Spyderco because I "expected" the most expensive and nicest looking Civilian to come with the zipper pouch! It would have been a complete package!
I still love and will continue to buy Spyderco's but I just needed to get that off my chest (BTW, my Renegade came with a zipper pouch)
thanks for listening,
woody

Hi. An oversight on our part. the knives were ready, the pouches are still on order, the customers didn't want to wait so they went out. The note that said the pouches are not in didn't go with the knives.

If you want the pouch that goes with the Civvie, Please contact Susan (email address; PowellSpyderco@AOL.com) with your name and address and she will get them out to you when they come in.

sorry.

People, lets not overlook what we received from Spyderco.

MSRP on a G-10 Civilian is $209.90
MSRP on a CF Civilian is $228.90

Thats just $19.00 to upgrade the product from G-10 to Carbon Fiber. Add to that the limited production of from 60 to 540 pieces depending on which version you bought (LH,RH,plain or serrated). This knife will only increase in value from this day forward.

That and the fact that Sal had offered to send the pouches out when arrive. Personally I couldn't be happier.

Terry

Sal, thank you very much! I really appreciate the offer for a pouch, and I will take you up on it.

Thanks again!

I coudn't agree any more - this is a great knife and an equally desireable one at that.. I have been waiting for a chance to own a plain edge civilian and my prayers were answered.

I actually thought I was too late in finding out abou;it.. but I guess I was just at the rigt place at the right time..

I own #409 and am happy with it.. incidentally if anyone has a #150 maybe we can trade or work a deal?

If you call the Spyderco Factory Outlet I am told they have them available for purchase. Your Matriarch would feel right at home in a SpyderPouch.

BTW: Saying the Matriarch is "the same darn knife" as the Civilian is like comparing an FRN Endura to the G-10 Police. Those familar with the models will understand. Know your blades, they will serve you well.

Wow. I'm relatively new to this forum, but I've been around enough to have noticed that Sal Glesser is apparently a (or the?) top man at Spyderco, and that he posts pretty frequently. I was VERY impressed, after the discussion about Civilians coming in boxes v. pouches, that he apologized and offered to make good for those who received their knives without pouches. I don't own a Civilian, but I was very pleased to see that Spyderco's service rivals the quality of its knives. Way to go!

i have handled both the civvy and the mat, and no they are not exactly the same, but they are pretty darned close - dont get me wrong both great knives, but comparing the 2 wouldnt exactly be like comparing apples and oranges would it?? they are pretty darned close......
