Question for Zing owners

I'd appreciate some advice.

I recently got a Kershaw Zing, and while all my other Kershaws open buttery smooth, the Zing does not. I've oiled the pivot, but that does not seem to help.

So now I am trying to loosen the pivot screw, but it will not move. The thing is like cemented in place. So I am wondering if anyone has had any similar problems, and were you able to loosen the pivot screw? Maybe it is not meant to be loosened?

Or is it possible that the liner is exerting too much force on the closed blade, thus making it harder to open? Although with the little ball bearing, this should not be the case, right?

Suggestions?

Kershaw might have loctited it. I would grab a hair dryer and point it at the pivot for a minute or two then try again.

i would say of all the knives ive owned my zing has had the strongest detent. but it helps the flipper function, but building up pressure before it flips. mine however was nothing worth worrying about. it may just need broken in a little too. the pivot is mean to be loosened, mine came off with no problems. goodluck though!

My zing is stiff as well. The only way to flick it is with a little wrist action. I've loosened it up but it still doesn't actuate smoothly. In my opinion, the detent on the liner does not let you build up enough pressure before the blade starts to move.

Mine flies open like an auto, but the lock doesnt hold at all. A light push from my finger and it goes shut.

I need to send her in and let Kershaw's awesome customer service fix it.

Thank you all for the feedback. I will try the hairdryer and try again with the pivot. Also, I probably do need to break it in a little more.

If nothing works, I too may send it in for some fine tuning by Kershaw.

If you have a soldering iron or hot glue gun put the tip against the pivot bolt for a few minutes. That has always worked better for me for liquifying locktite than anything else.

I've personally found that sticky action on Kershaw folders is often caused by the body screws being too tight, not the pivot. If the body screws are too tight, the handle slabs squeeze the blade too tightly, and the action is stiff. I adjust the pivot so that the blade is centered, then adjust the handle screws to loosen the action. You might need to put some extra locktite on those screws if you loosen then enough, you know, so your knife does fall apart.

I own a lot of Kershaws, and have consistently found that the handle screws are just as, if not more, important than the pivot when adjusting the action on both the flippers and the AO knives.

Been carrying mine every day for almost ayear now and it opens and closes smooth as silk. If yours doesn't send it back to Kershaw and i'm sure they will make it right.

Zing is my fastest flipper and fastest knife after A/O's. Sounds like you got the monday piece. Kershaw's warranty is good. If nothing helps, mail kershaw customer's service for advice. I am sure they are happy to fix your knife or send new one to you if they cannot repair the knife.
