Just ordered mine and it should arrive tommorrow. As I'm cleaning my current EDC it got me wondering. How does the KVT ball-bearing system handle dirt? I do a lot of hiking in dusty environments and I'd like to know if the knife can handle it?

Thanks !

Good question, I just ordered one as well. Will be waiting to hear some answers.

Handles dust no problem, I'm sanding and blowing off cars etc

Never a prob

This thread needs pics lol

I will not affect it. I work In a tool shop, I get blast media, metal shavings and all kinds of abrasives in mine all the time. You can hear sand in it but it will not bind it up. I think it being so dirty made mine smoother, now it's action is like a custom.

I don't have the 801, but I do have the 777. The caged bearings fit very well and should keep out almost all dirt and grime.

I have been carrying one for about a year now as my EDC. I really like it. It has cut everything I needed to cut. The only thing I have a slight problem with is the cutout on the back for the lockbar to move. In my opinion, it is on the wrong side of the scale. I think the cutout should be on the inside of the scale as in the Sebenza. With the clip on the same side it makes it hard to pull the knife from my pocket. Having said that, it may be a good thing as it is less likely to fall out of my pocket. I think you will be very pleased with the knife. Enjoy!

The ZT 0801? I'm a huge fan:

Thanks for the heads up guys. I can't wait till' tommorrow. On a side note I watched the ApostelP review on the 0801 just now and I sure hope mine won't have that loose pivot screw problem.

If you haven't watched that check this out and skip to about 22:00

Here's a video showing different makes and models being subjected to dirt and sand. He tests a 0561 but it rides on the same KVT system. Looks like bearings handle grit pretty well.

0561 goes in the mud at 6:00, but the whole video is worth the watch to get some comparative observations.

Awesome video, thanks that's some real word proof right there.
