Question from a super picky knife guy/my first CRK

Hey guys picked up my first high end knife yesterday from a local shop, a large 21. I have an eye for quality, and I am ridiculously OCD about knives (which is why I got the Sebenza). Anyways, check out these pics of the inside of the lock bar. There's a funny raised triangle in the corner, are other 21's like this? It's not a problem, I was trying to find a defect with this knife and this is all I could come up with :p

I noticed it because it flares out the chamfered edge on the lock bar, then I peeked inside and noticed it was raised and triangular in shape. Not sure if it was supposed to be ground out or if this is how they are.

It is hard to tell with the pics you have because the resolution is supper compressed. Are u using tapatalk?

The slot for the lockbar looks like it was put in using a slitting saw. What you are seeing is the remnant of the diameter of the slitting saw meeting it's endpoint before retracting.
It's probably on alot of integral lock knives. A bit hard to see in there to take it out with a file.

I am so glad I am not the only one with that degree of OCD! Of all of the perfection of my Large 21, I always seem to notice that; mine is the exact same way. I've chalked it up to a tooling mark or manufacturing remnant, and it doesn't bother me any more. With multiple I've seen being like that, I would assume it to be normal, and not any actual defect.

Upon checking my CRK's, the large and small 21, the zaan have that notch. The 25 does not have it.
You're good to go, no defect at all, but don't take my word for it, you should pick up a small to see if it also has that darn notch :)
Congratulations on the Sebenza!!!!!

As bhyde said, they use a circular saw blade for that cut, that's why there's a slight overcut on the inside of the handle slab. When they cut the shorter cutout, they are being careful not to mill past the first longer cut, and they leave a slight bit of that material still there. Could they make it perfect? probably, but it would probably cost more too. My job experience is in quality engineering, so I often see flaws that others miss or don't see as flaws. CRK's are by far the best quality and finish knives that I've purchased, but of the 10 I have, each has some small flaw(s), none are perfect. But then, nothing is.

Its just tooling marks during mfg. Between the cutting and the chamfering, thats what remains. Its still clean lines. Use her and enjoy....!!!

Annoying isn't it??? :) My Sebenza has by far the best F&F of any knife I have owned. I went over this with a fine tooth comb and this is all I could come up with. It's weird, but it's still machined clean, it doesn't look poorly cut.

Good to know! I've never seen another frame lock with it, but if it is indeed cut with a circular saw (or one like it), it makes sense that it would end up angled with each cut shorter than the last. Most frame locks I have owned have been ZT, which are either laser or cut by water jet.

PS, when my local shop gets his next order of CRK i'll be checking out the Umnumzaan next. I think a small Sebenza is too small for me.

Thank you guys for the quick responses! I think i'll be hanging around the CRK forum more now that I see what all the rave is about. :D

You guys are sure eagle eyed.... never noticed it on mine,,until now,Think it's kinda cool to see EXACTLY how the thing is made... had to rewatch the factory video.... always amazed at this little marvel called CRK!
