QUESTION: Hole in front quillion ,(aka guard) in Fixed Blade knives...

Some kydex sheath makers match the same hole.

What is that hole on the knife for?

Is it to allow the knife to be ziptied in place, or clipped in place so it's not lost?

I can't think of any other reason!

Thanks,
Michael

To use it as a balance beam(?)

It's a common feature on Swiss knives. The hole in the awl or the hook. Both being the neutral balance point. So it can used a balance beam with a blade deployed. Either the main blade or the fish hook remover that has the scale on the side.

That's my 2¢.

Usually on the knife it's used as a frontal lanyard point. When it matches with the sheath, some use it as a lock point using a cotter pin, padlock, or ziptie to pervent loss or unwanted handling.

If it's done right. Anything hung off the end of the handle can be measured in grams. With the tip of knife indicating the weight on a measuring stick scale.
