There is a chance that my wife and I may be spending some time (as in a few months to years) in Bolivia and I was just curious (since it is a new environment) what sized blade would pair well with a machete. I know that the machete is the most important tool down there and I used it all the time when I was in Ecuador, but what do you guys at RAT like to pair with your machete?

So to summarize: For jungle and other S. America terrain, what size knife goes best with a machete?

I'd pair a machete with either an ESEE-3 or 4...probably a 4. Throw a SAK in your pocket too and you're golden. I'd get an orange one so if it falls into the bushes you can find it.

I have to agree with Adam on this one, Lite and 3 would be a great pairing of ESEE blade for the area.

I have the OD/Orange, and I don't have a Lite (yet), but I have my trust Collins and Tram, so, I'm covered.

I am amazed at how much the 3 can do, its a great knife.

Good luck on your adventure, I wish you a good journey.

I would say go with a 3 seeing as in one of your videos you really seemed to like it and it has the most versatility when combined with a machete.

Hmmm.... I feel like telling you to go with a H.E.S.T. knife. It seemed like nobody was to mention it. The Izula, Izula II, 3, 4, and the Hest all seem to be good choices for the pair up.

I think a 4 and the machete would be a great combo. It is what is going with me to Central America. Btw, We demand pictures from Boliva when you get back.

Whoa, Just realized you're staying long term. Bring a solid multitool. They are worth their weight in gold when you need to fix stuff and there simply are no suitable tools available.
