Question: Militec-1/Heat/Teflon Bushings

Militec-1 appears to be a well regarded lubricant. It also apparently is most effective when applied to heated surfaces. This is no doubt due to the fact that it was developed for use on auto/semi-auto weapons.

When used on the pivots of folders having teflon bushings, does anyone have any input on how much heat can be applied to the pivot area before damage and/or deformation of the bushings will occur?

I assume bronze or phosphor-bronze bushings can handle more heat, but I'm not sure just how much more.

Any input? TIA

knifenerd,

From the information I have white teflon flat washers are suitable for use up to 500°F. BTW, if you ever need any www.mcmaster.com has a good assortment.

Militech is great stuff.....I use a heat gun at half heat when applying. I've only used on folders w/bronze bushings so far, and has worked great. Any folders with teflon washers have been fine, and I've only had to clean them out with some compressed air to get rid of the dust bunnies.

Take care,
Tom

Thanks for the info, Tom. I think 300 degress is about all Militec requires, so it sounds like I should be OK. :)

Thank you, Gollnick. I'll be trying this shortly, starting with a couple of less expensive knives to "test the waters". Everything I've heard so far seems to indicate that this stuff is top drawer.
