Question of 110 hunter

The mass produced standard 110 differ from eachother in that the grain pattern and colors are never the same twice. I own 5 soon to be 6 110's when my custom shop shows up tomorrow in the mail. My first 110 was a Walmart special I thought I was taking a risk of being any good on well it was and is extremely good! One side of the handle has very decent dark chocolate striping in the grain the other side is a solid shade of red. After buying both Ecolite 110's and loving those I placed a custom shop order as well as bought a finger grooved 110 of fleabay that is flat out amazing with a perfect aesthetic balance of color and pattern in the grain of both sides of the handle and the grooves really do work very well. Since it was going to be at least 2 months for my custom shop I got bored one day and scoured 5 local Walmarts looking for the best 110 example they had. The best one I found has the most vivid black, brown, and red striping Ive seen on any 110. I plan on trying to find another Walmart special with the most solid black handle I can find which should be another fun afternoon. So no, not all 110's are the same and that is the main difference. The secondary difference is how long the knife has been on the shelf no matter who is selling it. Been a long time on the shelf it is going to be very stiff and will take time to work out the stiffness. My fingergrooved model was only a couple months old and has one sweet and smooth action.

Buck does special runs for some large customers: i.e., Cabella's has 110s in S30V (Alaskan model, I believe) and BassPro has them in CPM-154. Great knives; nothing shabby about the standard 110 in 420HC.

Thanks for the replies. My question was with regards to the standard 110 and not special runs. My opinion is that Buck does not make an 'inferior" or lesser grade 110 for Walmart or anyone else which is what I felt the post in the thread I linked was implying. I've seen other posts in the past that alluded to Buck making a "cheap" version for certain retailers.

I'm remembering that the only difference in a basic 110 that retailers can specify is the packaging, clam pack or box. The basic 110 is a basic 110, anything inferior that is noticed, it is deemed a "factory blemish", and is then sold out of the Company Store.

BH,

You have been with us here for a long time now. Why don't you answer your own question, you know the answer already.

You're right but I was still wondering if C.J or someone had actually addressed it on the forum so it's not just my word/opinion against someone elses.

The only differences I have found is in the sheaths. I think the Walmart version that is a little cheaper has the cordura(if that's the correct term and spelling). Where I've picked up the 110 that was a bit pricier, they usually have the leather sheath.

They also give them away to missionaries to give to locals that could use it....which is extremely cool

I don't know were it was on this forum but I do recall at some time Joe saying that there is NO Diffrence between
the basic 110 sold at Cabl...'s or Ba...Pr..'s and Wally world except for sheath or packaging
yes they do runs of things different some times but the Basic 110 is the same..
well.. I will correct that
at one time Wally wanted some boxed 110's with a different tang stamp!
this happened two years and is the source of the style of the BCC blade stamp ..
