At one of my honey holes this weekend I held a 395 Omni Hunter 10pt. .
It seemed like a good knife . I was wondering about it's stamping as I'm not familiar with this model . It was stamped Buck 395 USA (no year code)and on the other side the Bos flame . Is this model one of those in early 2009 that did not recieve a year stamp ? Does anyone have one thats a contract knife ? Thanks, for your expertise and Buck knowledge . DM

David, I just went through some catalogs and up until 2010, all the Omni Hunters were listed as having blades of 420HC. In 2010, they were changed to 12C27MOD Sandvick which should have the Bos flame.

Plumber, Thanks . It may not have had the steel stamped but I didn't really remember seeing it . It was new looking and not sharpened, the camo sheath and camo knife handle looked new with no box . They wanted 30$ for it ? Should I go back ? DM

This has me a little puzzled. Looking again, I see that the 395 isn't in the 2010 catalog but it is in the 2010 price list where it's described as the "select" which leads me to believe that it's still 420HC. So, I don't know what you saw. All the 395's I've seen listed have been 420HC and I've never seen a 420HC blade with the Bos flame stamp.

The select is listed at $52.

David, I know you are a successful hunter...I've seen the pics. So, I would not buy the Omni Hunter. It does not have the "sex appeal" to appear in any of your hunting pics. Please don't buy it. Stick with your 110(s) from Flatlander! Just my opinion of course!

Thank you 2Tony, those are good ones . What caused me to notice the 395 stamping was just hunger . Many guys here have been posting photos of their great looking knives until it gave me a case of Buck fever and caused me to go check my honey holes during my travels . I hit six of them during this past week and the 395 was the ONLY Buck knife I laid an eye on . I was hoping for something that would fit into my collection . But even sometimes when you go fishing the fish aren't biting that day . So, a dry run ! But the hunt is still on and I may stumble onto one soon . Thanks, Plumber . DM
