Question on 709 dating

Does the Buck Date Code Chart apply to the Buck 709 Yearling? If I am reading it correctly...if the blade is stamped:
Line 1: Buck
Line 2: 709
Line 3: U.S.A.

No symbol on line 2, it is dated 1972-1986? The knife in question was sold as a 1988, but has no "^" symbol on it.
 
The 709 Yearling came out in Sept. 1981. Should have a English script stamp. By 2002 the 709 was removed from the catalog.Without the symbol it is not a 1988.
It is likely earlier. DM

Thank you, DM. You are correct in the "Buck" being in English script.
 
That would put it before 84-85 as that shield's script was changed to block lettering during that time. DM
