now i don't have much experience with knives made from more modern materials like titanium etc and say this BOKER knife that looks awesome but the blade material ceramic??? could you tell me about things like whether or how these would be sharpen (or is the intention for a long lasting edge retention?). my main experience is with your carbon steels and just thought i'd ask as i'm considering this as a purchase. also how strong would the blades be on these, i want a good all rounder for small tasks nothing considered blade abuse but any thoughts or if you own one please post your experience with it (if it's not the best knife to buy from them i might go with the H&K knife).

Heres the model that got me interested as i love the design:

Please tell me if i'm way off base with what i posted...
thanks Robert.B :)

Pro's:

-No corrosion
-Not magnetic
-Wear resistant
-Doesn't influence taste of food

Cons:

-Cannot be sharpened (must be sent back to the factory)
-Extremely brittle

Ceramics seem to hold an edge better than most steels when cutting soft materials. The hardness is said to be in the high 80's so the knife is extremely brittle. That also means you can't sharpen it (I'm not sure if diamond stones would work here). I don't personally own any, but the ones I have seen and from what people tell me, I am not particularly impressed. They might have a place in the kitchen but I don't find that the high hardness is an advantage for a pocketknife which can be easily maintained.

thanks, well i'm after a good servicable liner lock knife and was impressed with the design of it (appearance obviously isnt everything). has pro's and con's but the con's of this knife that you stated i think out weigh the pro's.

thanks again...

Boker is a company that I would like to "love" but can't. They may be taking steps into the future, but keep stumbling over the past. For a lower price, there are numerous production companies that offer state-of-the-art designs and steel.

I have a boker ceramic knife, the one with G10 handle and black ceramic blade. It looks cool and I doubt you could detect it with a metal detector as it just has a very thin linerlock made from what looks like titanium. The blade is razor sharp and Ive had it since christmas and its still as sharp as when i got it. I can however say that the balde looks very brittle and I darent use it for anything tough at all. Its excellent for cutting softer things and no doubt it would be good for sticking people. I think theyre designed to evade metal detectors and stick people and i think tehy would be excellent at that but i wouldnt use it for general tasks, it would just chip or break
