I just picked this Mesa, AZ marked Busfield up. I have never owned a Busfield knife before, but am just amazed at the workmanship of this knife. It is just fantastic. I know that Busfield moved from Arizona in 1986 so I'm guessing this knife was made pre-1986, right? Also it is marked with the number 010. Does anyone know what this denotes? The knife is just under 7" opened and is 4" closed. Thank you in advance for your help and Merry Christmas!

Jack makes superb knives, but last I heard from him, he was sort of semi-retired.

The serial number denotes the number of the model made....In other words, you have the 10th example of that knife model. Jack stopped numbering them when he got to 25. He did not use the AZ stamp after he moved to NC, which was November, 1986.

FWIW, the handle material looks like bloodwood or pink ivory to me.

If you have a specific question, you can e-mail him at busfield@charter.net

Thank you, Steven. My guess was bloodwood as well. I sent an email to Jack to get his opinion on the knife. I don't suppose you know what model this knife is?

I just received an email back from Mr. Busfield. He was very helpful. He said he called this model his "large drop point style I" and that it was made in January of 1983. The inlays are of pink ivory wood and the frames are of 416 ss. The blade is 154 CM and was heat treated to 59-60c on the Rockwell scale. He also said he only made 13 of these (this being the 10th as Steven said earlier). Thanks again for your help, Steven!

It's a really nice looking folder, and it's always nice to see a Busfield that hasn't been engraved.. Best, Rich

Interesting... he must have kept good records! It's nice to find out more about something in your collection.
