Question on a couple of Limited Editions....

Hello ya'll.. ok so I'm a newbie here. I've been kind of half hazzardly collecting / trading knives for a few years now but only recently got more serious when I started trading on ebay. Now I mostly trade imperial, schrade and some custom knives.
Anyway I have recently obtained a couple of knives that I don't know much about except they are schrade.

First up is a "Paul Revere Limited Edition (etched on the blade) 3 blade stockman and has a tang stamp of S.W. CUT over PR2 USA. It has stainless blades as each of the smaller blades is stamped stainless on the back side & red sawcut delrin handles. Anyway I was wonderin' if any of you could provide info regarding the approximate age of this knife and the number in the run... FYI this one is NOT for sale :)

Second is a NIB from the recently closed factory, I think, SDU77OT (this is what the label on the box says) with oak handles, brass pins and bolsters and the Ducks Unlimited shield as well as two flying ducks etched near the base of the clip blade. Tang stamp says Schrade+ U.S.A. LTD. It is like the 77OT muskrat but has a guthook instead of the second blade. I'm wondering if and when this was released and what quantity of run it might have had?

Any info would be much appreciates!!!!
Thanks Rick

Welcome, Rick!

The Paul Revere knife is part of the American Revolution 3 knife Set, issued in 1973, one of the earliest 'commemoratives' by Schrade or any other company. Others in the series are the 'Minute Man (battle of Concord) and the Liberty Bell. All came in the old style clear plastic tube, with red, white and blue end caps. If you don't have the paperwork, you may not know this: The serial number is on the inner brass liner on the clip blade side. The old, and best place for a serial number; of course now most companies just put it on the bolster. 24,000 of these made, original price being $12.50.

Schrade made two kinds of 'Duck' knives over the years, those commemorating the annual federal duck stamp, and then those knives issued as part of their long relationship with Ducks Unlimited. A Duckstamp knife is shown in the first photo with a real 'Guthook' blade. The second photo shows a DU77 knife with a 'birdhook' blade, a 2002 issue.

I cannot find your specific knife in my list of Schrade DU commemoratives that only goes up to 1997. If you knife was part of the huge number that came out of the Schrade factory at closing, then perhaps it is a post-1997 issue. Sorry I cannot be more helpful on this one.

Thanks so much Phil :D I really do appreciate the info. The PR is just the knife no tube or papers... so I really didn't know. I did find the serial # on the inside though. I would have thought it was an older model, didn't know they still used that style tang stamp into the 70's.

The DU knife must be a later one as it only has Schrade warranty papers vs. the DU papers you show in the pic. I actually have 3 of them right now, I'll keep one or two for sure. Anyway thanks again for the info it is greatly appreciated.

I searched a few of the other threads b4 posting the questions but didn't see anything on these two, course I could have just missed them.
Thanks again!!!!

Rick :)

Welcome Rick!

You mentioned the S W Cut stamping on the Paul Revere knife. I believe that stamp was actually first used in the '70s for limited editions, commemeratives, and maybe contract work. Not to be confused with the much older Schrade Cut Co stamps. At least I think LT or someone mentioned that once. Somebody will probably correct me if that is incorrect. :)

Thanks Bill it all helps and I've been reading some of Phil's and Michael's stuff. If there are experts other than factory workers these guys are it as far as I can see... I'll certainly learn a lot from hangin round here!!!

I see the SDU77 in the 2000 Shortline for the 1st time but see a special edition in the 1999 catalog unmarked. Its also in the 2001 & 2002 shortlines. There is a flyer on the collectors web site with the 2002 SDU's
Price in 2000 is 40.95
Hope that helps a little

Thanks a bunch Larry, every little bit helps... I actually have 3 of these now as they seem to be hard to find and I found a source where I got them for about $25 each. Probably will keep one or two, not sure what I'll do with the others.
