I recently inherited an older tigershark like the one in the first link with a sheath like the one pictured in the second link.

The knife and sheath are both mint and one of my favorite SOG's. The problem is that trying to pull the knife from the sheath is a two handed effort for sure. I pretty much have to either hold the sheath with one hand and jerk the knife out with the other or try and spread the mouth of the sheath with my thumb while pulling the knife free.

Is there anything that I can do to make unsheathing easier without reducing retention? TIA

If I understand your question correctly, you're looking for an easier method to pull the knife out without actually modifying the sheath?

Try grabbing the knife with your hand and with your thumb (on the same hand) spreading the top of the sheath apart just a tad and ease it out.

Second suggestion is get a heat gun and carefully heat up the kydex just a bit, then wiggle the knife around in there to loosen it up. This would reduce the retention though. If you do this, do it slowly and don't heat it up too much.

Swimmerdude explained exactly what I do when withdrawing the blade. Once you get the hang of it ....its fairly easy. Use your thumb as the fulcrum point and your all set. Be extra careful with the heat gun. Sometimes a hair dryer will work on some kydex. It gives a little more control.

Thanks for the replies. As I mentioned I already use my thumb as you both suggest. Not the easiest way to do it. Was just wondering if maybe the sheath will loosen up a bit over time or if this is just something I'll have to learn to deal with?

It's not like it's my EDC or anything where it will get a lot of use just seemed like an awfully hard draw from the sheath. Any aftermarket sheaths that will fit this model that anyone knows of?

One option is to have a new sheath made....see thread on SOG super bowie w/ custom sheath
