Friend on another forum scored an unusual 112 in Canada the other day. It's a three dot but with a 1987 date stamp and B-CAP engraved on the rear bolster. Any idea what the B-CAP stands for? Was thinking perhaps it was a Canadian store or something?

With due respect Sir, the dots are not RC hardness tests. DM

I agree. A forum search turned up a couple of older threads about this marking as well as a four dot with a year code. IIRC a couple of examples were buildouts but there was no real consensus that I read about why they were marked this way. Interesting at the least and maybe a rarity at best. I did find a Canadian company or reference to a company with B-CAP regarding electrical connectors. Perhaps this 112 was ordered as a promotional or sales gift for this company or maybe there's no connection at all.

After a google search I find an accosiation for people who stutter. They organize summer camps, so I believe this knife might be part or their order, made to be used by the members. They started out in 1989, which is pretty close with the dating of the 112. I mean - today you can still find in some stores new knifes from '08 .
If you write to them they may be good enough to make a reserch considering my theory. Their site is http://www.bcaps.ca/

I seem to have read on this forum that those additional dots in the year code could have something to do with mid-year changes?

Buck used dots and dashes to signify many changes. Trouble was not many of the reasons were written down. DM
