Question on "beads" and rivets

1. I have seen some sheathes for larger knives where the retaining strap has a slit in it, and it goes over a large "bead" to hold it. Does anyone know what they are called and a source?

2. Does anyone remember the military-style grommet/retainer? The grommet hole was oval and heavy duty. A toggle went through the grommet and was tilted to lock it in. Again, does anyone know what they are called and a source? Or something similar or better? Probably for a holster.

3. I am about out of a small rivet. The head is 3/16 in diameter, 1/16" thick, brass, and 3/8 long. My old supplier no longer carries them. I'm also looking for the same rivet in steel or stainless. Source?

I'm kind of new to this, as you might have guessed. Thanks in advance.

Item #1 is what is called a Sam Browne Button. I prefer them to snaps for a couple of reasons. Tandy Leather has several kinds of them in two or three sizes.

Can't help on the other two.

Item #2 sounds like a "lift the dot" snap. The ones that were common on canteen covers were "star pull" snaps.

Anyone know of sources that have assorted sizes of both the Sam Brown button (I'll check Tandy again) or especially the snaps.

#1 Tandy/Leather Factory calls them Sam Browne Button/Washer and the stock number for them is 1309-02 in Nickel over Brass and I believe 1309-01 in Brass. These are the rivet type which I prefer over the screw back.

#2 and 3 Try Ohio Travel Bag www.ohiotravelbag.com for the rest of your items. OTB also has a variety of different Sam Browne studs but I still prefer the Tandy/LF offering.

Good Luck

Paul
