Question on Benchmark SOS

I am in the process of moving and ran across some old knives I had packed away. One was a Benchmark SOS. I bought it in the early 80's.

It has about a 4" drop point blade. The handle grips rotate and cover the blade. There is no scabbard.

When the blade is covered, it exposes cut outs on the handle that serve as wrenches.

The butt of the handle has an extended lanyard hole and came from the factory with a 550 cord lanyard.

Anyone know if they still make this blade ? It is actually a darn good knife.

Benchmark have been out of business since the late 90s. I recall Gerber having bought them out(?). Their last known address was in Gastonia, NC.

Benchmark is supposedly back in business, but have only put out one knife (Sidewinder auto) so far, and I haven't seen many of them. I have an SOS that was given to me in about 1986 or possibly 1987. They were (and are) great little knives. I have mainly used mine as an emergency backup knife. With the folding blade cover and no need for a sheath it's perfect for a BOB or trunk kit knife. I am curious to know what the steel is in mine. I'm guessing 440A, but that is just a total WAG.
