This may have been asked before, but does anyone have info on the sword used in the movie blade? Also, did the sword actually have the functional handle mechanism as it was portrayed in the movie?
Thanks

I think it was made by prop master Tony Swatton. It had an aluminum blade and the opening action was made by a pull string done off camera.

The sword of the daywalker used in the movie DID have pop-out blades and you CAN contract the guy who made that one to make one for you. the only catch is that he wont make it totally accurate because he doesnt own the rights to the design. oh yeah, and it'll cost you about $3,000.

if you want a good replica, look no farther than Factory-X. I know the people that run it and they're pretty cool. They own the official license to reproduce this sword (but it does NOT have the pop-out blades. it has the grooves where they'd come out of, but that's it). if you look around online, you could probably find one for about $150. I have one and it's pretty sweet!

factory-X also makes blade's Glaive. The Glaive folds in half at the center. t'is pretty neat-o.

oh, and yes the prop sword did have an aluminum blade. aluminum blades allow for fast action, although they blow goats and break really quickly. and that whole titanium blade thing is BS; titanium cant hold an edge very well

The one by Factory X isn't suitable for use either. Just consider it a decorative sword for the "Blade" movie advocate.

Enjoy.
