What is the likely blade steel in an early pre to 1974 Buck 112s?

I recall that some of the early Buck 501s and others of that ilk were 440C. Is this the case for the 110s and 112s also?

Thanks

...That's the steel used STR...440C...It was used til around 1981 when 425M replaced it...although I think you could find a few still having the 440C in '81 as they had to use up the 440C blades...

I thought so. Thanks D.

Darryl,, are there any obvious visuals that would help differentate the steels?

...Rodent the 4 dots should be the tell-tale sign of 425M steel and of the approximate date of manufacture...I don't think you'll see a 3 dot that would be made up of 425M...The 4 dot came out in 1981 til 1986 and it was the indication of the design change from 440C to 425M...

I guess I should have said other than the dots.... but that keeps me from researching... thanks....

So you can't look, feel, taste the blade other than the dots? and see or tell a diff? :D

Silly me,,, forgot I snaged a mint 4 dot couple days back... I guess I should go drag it out and taste test it for my self... :D
