Use a brush. I find a tooth brush helps for small things, even folders, and for big areas a vegtable or finger washing brush. Use hot water and a mild soap, Dr. Bonners works great, so will dishwashing soap. Swing it around fast 10x in a circle to get the water off :) and then wripe and wrap it in a terrycloth towel. Should be pretty dry, let it final air dry in the sun.

Vigorous brush work might destroy the brush if the teeth are real sharp. I know gentle use of a toothbrush works well on serrations.
